Operation Safety Net is a medical and social service outreach to the homeless population of Pittsburgh. Street Outreach services find people where they are – for basic medical care, food and water, clothing, and referrals to services. This program has grown quite a bit since 1992 and, as part of the Pittsburgh Mercy network of service providers, service coordination and referrals for medical and mental health issues, showers, mail service, and meals can be made available. Here at Saint Teresa of Kolkata Parish, we prepare 60 bag lunches for the Street Outreach program every second Wednesday of the month at the Resurrection church hall. Donations of individually-wrapped crackers, snacks, juice, fruit cups or desserts are always needed and greatly appreciated.
